Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is proving to be a valuable tool when it comes to treating both substance abuse and disorders of emotion dysregulation, such as Borderline Personality Disorder.

On Friday, Sept. 21, Dr. Amanda Smith, clinical director of Clearview Treatment Programs Center for Psychiatric Disorders and Addictions, will provide an overview of how DBT works to help patients who are struggling with both disorders, as well as the research behind this evidence-based treatment.

DBT therapy is an effective treatment option used throughout the continuum of care at addiction treatment centers. Clearviews Center for Psychiatric Disorders and Addictions, a dual diagnosis treatment center in Los Angeles, uses Dialectical Behavior Therapy as one of its primary treatment modalities.

DBT has proven to be a useful tool for helping people with substance abuse disorders learn how to regulate their emotions and improve impulse control, said Dr. Smith.

Dr. Smith has received advanced training in DBT and has worked in the field of addiction for nearly 10 years.
