Co-occurring Substance Abuse and Mental Disorder: A Practitioner's Guide is a basic overview of current evidence-based practices for treating co-occurring disorders. Co-occurring disorders, also known as dual diagnosis, refers to individuals who have both a mental illness and a co-morbid substance use disorder. The literature suggests that utilizing an "integrated" approach to treatment, treating both disorders concurrently in a program with clinicians specially trained in mental illness and substance abuse, provides the best outcomes for this population. This book is designed to provide clinicians with the basic knowledge and skills required to effectively assess and treat co-occurring disorders.

Question :

Is ther anyone that can suggest treatment facilities for co-occurring /dual diagnosis disorders?

My Girlfriend has been diagnosed as having multiple mental disorders (ocd,anxiety,adhd,bi-polar) and has recently developed a substance abuse problem....She is on probation and has failed recent UA tests, and has been given the option to go to jail for violating her probation or be admitted to a treatment facility (for Substance abuse only) of their choice, unless we can locate a facility we are most comfortable with...She has had these severe mental disorders long before her newly developed substance abuse and needs proper integrated treatment for dual diagnosis disorders,or co-occurring disorders,....Is there anybody else that can relate and has had to find affordable treatment for their loved one? and if so,...I am taking all referrals and suggestions !!!,,,,Please help before she is lost in our judicial system as a criminal! Question :

Why all the suicides?

Now I m not a New Yorker but I live in America and am therefore an American. I have served in the U.S. Army and am aware that suicides are occurring among U.S. Army soldiers. According to the New York Times 349 soldiers have killed themselves in the past three years, last year alone surpassed the rate for civilians for the first time in decades and that the Army is often reluctant to send soldiers to civilian therapists though there are still far too few providers for mental health and substance abuse services. The NY Times states, a warrior culture that discourages treatment persists .

More American military veterans have been committing suicide than US soldiers have been dying in Iraq, it was claimed yesterday.

At least 6,256 US veterans took their lives in 2005, at an average of 17 a day, according to figures broadcast last night. Former servicemen are more than twice as likely than the rest of the population to commit suicide.

Such statistics compare to the total of 3,863 American military deaths in Iraq since the invasion in 2003 - an average of 2.4 a day, according to the website ICasualties.org.

The rate of suicides among veterans prompted claims that the US was suffering from a mental health epidemic often linked to post-traumatic stress. http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/wo

Statistics show that on average 84 people in America commit suicide each day. That s 17 per minute. 73% of all suicide deaths are white males, the second leading cause of death among college students. More males die from suicide than females.
(4 male deaths by suicide for each female death by suicide.) More people die from suicide than from homicide.
(Suicide ranks as the 11th leading cause of death; Homicide ranks 13th.) There are approximately 750,000 suicide attempts each year.
An estimated 5 million living Americans have attempted suicide.
More females attempt suicide than males.
(3 female attempts for each male attempt.)
Each suicide intimately affects at least 6 other people. (estimate)

Suicides are generally looked down upon by fellow Americans as selfish and weak people who deserve what they get, who reap what they sow, people who truly are lonely.
How can we call ourselves united when we can t even take care of ourselves, when our love for money surpasses our ability to stand as a country and work for safer streets instead of making room for drug dealers, sex slave traders, and organized murderers.
Are we as a country weak and selfish? Why all the suicides?
Answer :
lack of self-esteem, discourage, self pity, loneliness, abandoned, and etc... makes them weak. If they know that suicide is not the answer for their longings rather making God the center of their minds, they will not commit suicide.

I think there is missing. It s God. God is the answer. If there is no God, then, there is no answer.

BTW, here in Philippines, you Americans became a tool for filipinos to know who is Jesus. We become strong in faith in Him. Don t forget also to know Jesus who you evangelize in us.
