Question :

I am writing a paper on eating disorders for my health class. One of the questions I would like to answer on my paper is how much weight will a person lose if they eat normal & then go a day without eating.
I ve searched the internet but can t find a thing.
Answer :
i use to be anemic when i was like 14...i had weighed 115...but after 3months of being sick, i went don to 80 pounds...they had to put me in the hospital because i was really weak. i could eat a cookie and i d be full, so they had to feed me through an iv. if u have an eating disorder you wont realize how much weight your losing until some months after, when u realize how sick u are. i hope this helps a little...
Question :

Eating disorders?

Why do so many people look down on others who suffer with eating disorders? An eating disorder is a disease and people can die from it.

Some think their fat
Some don t even know why they do it
Some do it because they were abused
Some do it becasue of a broken family
Some because of a troubled childhood
Some because of depression

And I m sure other reasons to.

I don t think this is something to be mocking or laughing at. All that does is makes that person angry, and drives them deeper in the problem
Answer :
you are extremely right!!!!! people should not be looked down upon for having an eating disorder when the same people are looked down upon for being overweight...it is terrible and often the reason people die from the disease. thank you for speaking out!

When someone is with a drug addiction, it becomes a foregone conclusion that they will have to go through a detox treatment. People who are looking at any kind of drug addiction treatment are resigned to the fact that they will need detox. But this is not the case with alcohol addiction treatment. Alcohol detox is simply not considered to be as important as drug detox. That is the reason people have several questions when they are counseled that they will have to go through an alcohol detox program.

The following are some questions that people facing the prospect of an alcohol detox have, with their answers.

Q1. Is alcohol detox really important?

Most patients of alcohol addiction ask this, and even their families do. However, the answer to this question is a positive "yes". Alcohol detox is just as important as a drug detox treatment if not more. The first benefit that this treatment provides is that it completely detoxifies the body. The meaning of detoxification is removal of toxins, which in this case is the alcohol itself. So, when a person is made to go through an alcohol detox treatment, the alcohol present in the body of the person is removed.

This has many positive benefits on the person. One, it helps the patient to come out of the health problems that the alcohol accumulation might cause, such as the cirrhosis of the liver. It helps alcoholics to stay healthier. In most people, it has been found that they have gotten into a better body shape after an alcohol detox treatment. Also, it helps people in coming out of their urges for the substance. As long as there is presence of alcohol in the body of the person, there is always a chance that the person will have a tendency to have more of it. But with the detox treatment, the alcohol is completely removed from the body. Hence, there is a possibility that the person is completely brought out of the temptation of the substance. This is a definite positive benefit of the detox treatment.

For these reasons, alcohol detox is indeed important and must not be neglected.

Q2. How is an alcohol detox treatment program implemented?

First, the person's condition is properly analyzed to make sure that the person does not have any physical or psychiatric complication that might pose a problem to the treatment program. Once it is decided that the person is fit enough to go through the alcohol detox treatment, he or she is made to abstain completely from the substance. In order to make things simpler, the patient is kept in an isolated treatment center so that they are away from familiar circumstances and people, thus making it better to stay away from the substance.

Question :

Sip of alcohol a day?

What are the pros and cons or having a sip of alcohol (scotch) a day. I ve been trying to find faqs about it but i cant seem to find any.

Some people say its good to have alcohol but not too many/abuse it.
Some people say its bad and don t even drink it at all.

please provide faqs supporting your answer.
Answer :
Faqs= frequently asked questions. Facts = an indisputable thing, ie the sky is blue.

However, a sip will do next to nothing. A sip will not cause any harm or benefit, just as smoking less than a cigarette a day will never cause anything out of the ordinary.

People say to drink a glass of red wine a day. The benefits of this include reduced likelihood of heart disease, blood clots, atherosclerosis, hypertension, kidney stones, and Alzheimer s. It also contains helpful antioxidants and can lower your cholesterol. The drawback is that it is high in calories (100-150 calories per glass).

Scotch will not likely provide any of these benefits. And regardless what you drink, a sip a day will change nothing.
Question :

A question for EVERYONE: If everyone could learn lucid dreaming really, really well....?

and have very enjoyable long lasting lucid dreams every single time they laid down to go to sleep, then wouldn t you suspect that these lucid dreamers would soon lose their interests in political issues? Wouldn t they soon detach themselves from their absurd religious beliefs?

What kind of world do you think we d be living in if everyone could experience long and highly enjoyable lucid dreams all the time, living out their wildest fantasies?

Below is an example of what I teach people in the DI category.

1.)The Critical Facility: One very definite sure fire method of mastering lucid dreaming is to develop your critical facility. This is the area of your brain that gives you the ability to analyze and use logic when you re dreaming. When you analyze, judge and use logic in your dreams, you ll be able to distinguish what is impossible and what is real. Then you ll become aware that you re dreaming and gain full consciousness and control of your dream. It will take less than a year or perhaps even just a few months until your brain reacts to the affirmation or it may take several months. But it will eventually happen. There have been some people who have achieved this withing just a few short months, but definitely less than a year.

When you lie down to go to sleep, repeat this affirmation 100x: "I NOW PERMANENTLY OPEN UP MY CRITICAL FACILITY TO MAXIMUM POTENTIAL."

Make sure that you visualize your brain glowing very brightly while repeating the above affirmation 100x. And make sure that you don t think about anything else before you fall asleep, or it won t work. You must remember to do this mental exercise every time you lie down to go to sleep......EVERY TIME!

2.) Set aside from developing your critical facility, you should keep a dream journal and do your best to record with detail every dream you have, immediately after you wake up. This way, you ll be building your ability to remember your dreams. You can also look at your hands throughout the day and repeat to yourself, "am I having a lucid dream."

Most people don t have the patience to learn this sort of thing. Lucid Dreaming can in fact be used as a very powerful mental laboratory. People have learned to expand their intelligence as well as alter their GENES. People who have mastered Lucid Dreaming claim that such things can be accomplished. You can in fact have lucid dreams in which case you feel certain that you re actually physically there. I promise you that it will feel so real to you and that you will have so much control over your dream, that it will frighten you with excitement. You ll wake up the next day feeling very thrilled at what you ve accomplished.

ITS VERY IMPORTANT THAT YOU NEVER USE ANY KIND OF MIND ALTERING DRUGS OF ANY KIND, SUCH AS MARIJUANA, ALCOHOL, OR ANTI DEPRESSANTS WHILE LEARNING LUCID DREAMING, OR YOU WILL FAIL!

3.) If you are looking for a much easier way and have lots of money, then buy the nova dream goggles as a powerful aid.

http://lucidity.com/novadreamer.html

4.) Or if you want a less expensive version of the lucid dream goggles, then go here:

http://www.instructables.com/id/The-Luci

Also you might want to read all of this info to help you out.

http://www.faqs.org/faqs/dreams-faq/luci

I hope that my answer will help.....it should if you use all of it!

P.S. You can use lucid dreaming as a doorway into remote viewing or astral projection.

Commonly question about Cool Depression Bipolar Disorder images

Question :

Wat mental disorder could this be?

Im 18 and i feel like something is wrong with me. A few years ago i was diagnosed with Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). but I feel like its more than just that. I have most of the symptoms of depression, weak, tired, unmotivated, not happy, bad self image, and suicidal thoughts. But sometimes im happy and feel like im the coolest person and i can do anything i want, almost sounds like bipolar but im not sure. Its on and off. Im also very paranoid i feel like everyone doesnt like me and they are all fake or idk i feel like my friends arent really my friends and stuff. I also feel like everyone is bad and I cant trust anyone.
I also think about doing stuff that i would actually never do.
I also randomly get very angry and just want to hit something.
I have very low self confidence in just about everything i do. Ex. I think im really bad at basketball despite the fact that im an all-american and on a full scholarship for college, i just think i suck at everything

I make up crazy scenarios in my head, Its like i almost make up my own life in my head because i dont think mine is good enough

i look to the future and dont see any good.

thinks like that what do you think it could be?
Answer :
You really need to see a doctor. If you don t have one, call your local mental health department. They will give you a recommendation to a doctor. This in something that could be simply treated with meds or therapy (probably both). It is good that you recognize you have a problem. You want to deal with this as soon as possible - your future depends on it. I for one would like to see you playing on a college basketball team! Take care and God bless.
Question :

How to deal with an alcoholic father?

I m 18 years old, still living at home and trying to get a job, and trying the best I can with school. My dad has these mood swings out of nowhere, and sometimes I don t know if it s my fault, or if it s just the beer. He s never "drunk" per say, but he definitely is mentally/physically dependant on the alcohol.

I am the only one living with him, and he s drank for quite a while. I can keep my cool with him sometimes when he has those mood swings, but I still don t know if it has to do with me or not. My family is prone to depression and it looks like I will be the same way. My older siblings pretty much kiss his *** about everything.

A few years ago, I pretty much decided that no matter how "good" I do at something, he ll always have this "perfect son" image in his mind.

How do I deal with someone like this? I m afraid of being the same way as I get older (not drinking). I already feel I suffer from bipolar disorder and borderline personality. I m just afraid that next time we argue that I might do something I might regret, whether it s to him, or to myself.
Answer :
My father is a alcoholic himself. He goes to work and everything but as soon as his done with working, he has to drink. He does this on a daily basis for like forever, even when he wasn t married he had a drinking problem according to grandma and other family members. Depression also runs in my family too! I even have depression and social anxiety we have alot in common lol
My best advice to you, is just stick it out cause where you gonna go? Your only 18 years old, you can t pay the bills. Keep up with your studies and do well in them, go to college or university and once you start working, get the hell out of there and start living on your own or find a room-mate. When your dad starts to bug you, just walk away. Go to your room and listen to music or whatever you like doing. Call a friend and go outside just try keeping your kool around him till he gets sober.

Answer :
If you are in school (no idea which country) are you heading for university after school, at age 18? If so I d recommend that you get out of there and get to a university where you can live away from home. Otherwise try to get a job where you can live away from home, even if you decide to go abroad for a year, to get out of the situation. They don t need you there.

Just because your father has these problems, you should not assume that you have them. You are living in exceptional circumstances. You need to get away from these circumstances and then after a year you feel that you still have problems you need to get counselling, and talk about this traumatic childhood that you have got. However by then it is quite possible that you will have come to terms with your own life and worth and gained some self-esteem. I think you are wrong to assume that you are going to turn out anything like your father.

Start planning for your future now that you are 18 and nearly out of school, and try to find a way of getting away and building your own life. Your father may then come to terms with who you are more easily than if you are at home where he can control your life. He has your older siblings to look after him if necessary or at least to fill the gap. You need space to come to terms with who you are and you could well surprise yourself by discovering you are stronger than you thought you were.

Few consumer makes be more effective acknowledged as opposed to runners of your LOral Team. The profile of 23 world wide makes such as household names for example Maybelline, Garnier and Biotherm, in addition to the LOral Paris brand name itself, are common at the forefront of their market place, may it be for beauty products, skin care, smell or hair.

Headquartered in Paris, LOral has over a hundred years experience with enhancing the ideal in ladies of every age group and competitions. Now, the group carries a existence in 130 nations around the world and it is 65,000 employees were being guiding product sales of 17.5 thousand recently.

LOrals existence in Asia goes back to 1994. LOral carries a powerful opinion in value of producing close to its marketplaces, explains Vishal Sahgal, commercial movie director of your businesses Pune factory.

However, Asia didn't find a process of liberalisation for overseas firms until the very early 90's, so at first, producing was performed by way of a sub-professional. In 1998 we're eventually able to transfer to direct creation, operated by the fact no person has much more experience than LOral while in the creation of the choices that many of us are renowned for, he gives.

Sales of LOral products in Asia have already been meteoric. We not merely give goods that be more effective with regards to high quality and safe practices, we happen to be crucial in making new markets. By way of example, hair colouration was changed by LOral if we unveiled fashion shades which girls had never been applied in advance of. Our Colouring Naturals brand name is quite readily available, charging close to 2, and yes it has an international high quality standard that has been certainly not obtainable in advance of. In the same manner, we unveiled Indian native people to hair conditioners in my ballet shoes identified speedily absorbed from classic hair natural skin oils, he remarks.

Since 2004, producing for hair, hair colouring and skin care traces for LOrals Purchaser Goods team and Expert Goods team has had place at Pune. We must attract and keep the best ability so as to develop and our very first area was simply too remote, Sahgal explains. Pune is the place the whole functions are now structured so we have as much as 600 people today doing work for us at anyone time.

Sahgal explains that promoting maintainable improvement is really a standard tenet within all plant life and circulation organisations that perform under LOreals patio umbrella. Ecological durability and management and business cultural obligation (CSR) are classified as the side by side pillars that help this wider intention. Even from the strenuous design that every one LOral producing organisations perform, Sahgal is convinced the results ofthe factory at Pune are a great gift. Our Pune manufacturer is different from the team because of its environmentally friendly results, he thinks. Their state government of Maharashtra where by we're also structured presented the Pune manufacturer very first prize while in the High quality in Electricity Administration type last year because of its various electricity resource efficiency tasks.

Question :

Doesn t this have a very religious nature to it? Ancient Arabs were WISE!!!?

Ancient Arabs make modern Klansmen look tame

Zanj (Arabic: , "Land of the Blacks" or "Land of the Negroes"1) was a name used by medieval Arab geographers to refer to both a certain portion of the coast of East Africa and its inhabitants, Bantu-speaking peoples called the Zanj.

"As for the Zanj, they are people of black color, flat noses, kinky hair, and little understanding or intelligence."

"We know that the Zanj (blacks) are the least intelligent and the least discerning of mankind, and the least capable of understanding the consequences of actions." Jahiz (d. 868 AD), Kitab al-Bukhala

"Like the crow among mankind are the Zanj for they are the worst of men and the most vicious of creatures in character and temperament." Jahiz, Kitab al-Hayawan, vol. 2

"inhabitants of sub-Saharan African countries are people distant from the standards of humanity" "Their nature is that of wild animals...." Persian geography Hudud al-`alam, 982 AD

"They the Shu`ubiyya maintain that eloquence is prized by all people at all times -- even the Zanj, despite their dimness, their boundless stupidity, their obtuseness, their crude perceptions and their evil dispositions, make long speeches." Jahiz, Al-Bayan wa`l-tabyin, vol. 3

"Galen says that merriment dominates the black man because of his defective brain, whence also the weakness of his intelligence." Mas`udi (d. 956 AD), Muruj al-dhahab

"As regards southern countries, all their inhabitants are black on account of the heat of their climate... Most of them go naked... In all their lands and provinces, gold is found.... They are people distant from the standards of humanity." Hudud al-`Alam, Persian geography, 982 AD

"The Zanj are so uncivilized that they have no notion of a natural death. If a man dies a natural death, they think he was poisoned. Every death is suspicious with them, if a man has not been killed by a weapon." Abu Rayhan al-Biruni, India, 1030 AD

About the Zanj: "Their nature is that of wild animals. They are extremely black." About the Sudan: "Among themselves there are people who steal each other s children and sell them to the merchants when the latter arrive." Hudud al-`Alam, 982 AD

"If (all types of men) are taken, from the first, and one placed after another, like the ***** from Zanzibar, in the Southern-most countries, the ***** does not differ from an animal in anything except the fact that his hands have been lifted from the earth,--in no other peculiarity or property,--except for what God wished. Many have seen that the ape is more capable of being trained than the *****, and more intelligent." Philosopher-theologian Nasir al-Din Tusi (1201-74), Tasawwurat

"Therefore, the ***** nation are, as a rule, submissive to slavery, because Negroes have little that is essentially human and have attributes that are quite similar to those of dumb animals, as we have stated." Ibn Khaldun, Muqaddimah, 14th century AD

"A man of discernment said: The people of Iraq ... do not come out with something between blonde, buff and blanched coloring, such as the infants dropped from the wombs of the women of the Slavs and others of similar light complexion; nor are they overdone in the womb until they are burned, so that the child comes out something between black, murky, malodorous, stinking, and crinkly-haired, with uneven limbs, deficient minds, and depraved passions, such as the Zanj, the Somali, and other blacks who resemble them. The Iraqis are neither half-baked dough nor burned crust but between the two." ibn al-Faqih al-Hamadani, Mukhtasar Kitab al-Buldan, 903 AD

"beyond known peoples of black West Africa to the south there is no civilization in the proper sense. There are only humans who are closer to dumb animals than to rational beings. They live in thickets and caves, and eat herbs and unprepared grain. They frequently eat each other. They cannot be considered human beings." Ibn Khaldun, Muqaddimah

"Blacks are ugly and misshapen, because they live in a hot country." Ibn Qutayba (828-89 A.D.)

"The Zanj are slight-witted (kam aql), and God, most high, has created them stupid, ignorant, and foul (palid)." anonymous, Iskandarnamah, 1343 AD

Question :

Why dont Muslims acknowledge their violent history like Christians do?

Why dont Muslims acknowledge their violent history like Christians do?
This is a reasonable question justified by facts presented herein. Anyone who considers it a rant has an agenda which requires them to deny factual history: they cannot be reasoned with.
--------------------------------------

The modus operandi of Christianity was to send missionaries all over the world followed by invading armies, followed by incredibly brutal oppression. That violent history continued for hundreds of years, colonialism finally ending only in the last century. No Christians deny that violent history: in fact, our kids are taught about it in public schools.

But Muslims never acknowledge a similar violent history in advancing Islam, even though there is abundant evidence that Muslims were at least as violent as Christians, to wit:
-In 637AD (as Islam proceeded to conquer Christian Byzantium, the Christian Iberian Peninsula and Hindu India) Muslim General Khalid said: We heard that Byzantine blood is the tastiest, and we have come to drink it. But this is how Egyptian Cleric Hamdan Badr (of the International Union of Muslim Scholars) justified General Khalids aggression on Al-Shabab TV on 12/8/09:
This didnt constitute aggression because we were defending the borders of the Islamic state. We are commanded to enjoin people to worship Allah. That is the mission of every Muslim in this life.

Isnt that the pattern, the modus operandi of Islam today? Muslims self-segregate in ghettos, multiply and expand; Muslim extremists commit violence along the ghetto borders (4/14/07 sydsvenskan.se: Police must escort firemen entering the Muslim ghetto in Malmo, Sweden where Muslim extremists try to kill them) claiming theyre merely defending of Islam? Then the non-extremist Muslims simply fill in the space where non-Muslims fled from? Those borders expand, over hundreds if years, until they engulf the entire nation. Theres plenty of evidence that that is occurring today:
-In August of 2009, after hundreds of years of Muslims defending the borders of Islam in the Balkans, Bosnias Muslim spiritual leader Mustafa Ceric declared Christian Serbian Muslim-majority territory boarding Montenegro as Muslim homelands. (These are the same Muslims we saved from ethnic cleansing by bombing Christian Serbs in the 90 s)
-8/19/10 AndKronos Intl: Muslims claim land INSIDE Montenegro as Muslim homelands.
-8/20/10 AsiaNews, Kashmir : Extremist Muslims are demanding Sikhs convert or leave.
-8/23/10 Reuters, Thailand : Since 2004 Muslim extremists have killed 4,000 Buddhists in southern Thailand, which they are claiming as Muslim homelands.
-And only yesterday (6/13/11 Sofia News): Bulgaria: Muslims Say Bulgaria Plagued with Islamophobia, Vow to Defend Themselves
"Part of the Bulgarian society is plagued with islamophobia," the Bulgarian Chief Mufti s Office has declared in a special statement urging the Bulgarian Muslims to take measures to defend themselves against attacks.

Is this modus operandi of Islam? Is this why Muslims are involved in civil wars in China , Russia , Bosnia , Cyprus , Macedonia , Israel , Pakistan , India , Indonesia-Ambon & Halmarhera , Cte d Ivoire , Kashmir , Kosovo, Kurdistan , Kirghizia , Nigeria , Philippines , Somalia , Turkey , Chechnya , Sudan , Yemen , Thailand , Uganda , Azerbaijan and East Timor? (bing search "civil wars in the world today" to verify). Are they merely defending the borders of Islam?
Answer :
There are 2 billion christians and 1.5 billion muslims that make up more than half the world s population, and you are putting all 2 billion christians into the same pot that they all acknowledge the violent history of christianity, and all 1.5 billion muslims do not.

I bet you will not find the violence of the Christians in the Americas in this argument. Or the violence and abuse of the USA against countries like Iraq, Vietnam and others in there.

So while certain parts of christianity accept the crusades, they do not accept other things which are just as likely to be seen as religious wars. Afganistan was entered by the US in order to promote al Qaeda and Islam in general as the new common enemy after the fall of communism. The fact that the US is not supposed to be a religious nation, yet managed to treat the millions of muslims in the US in such a disrespectful manner makes it even more shocking, and as for the fact that the republican president was backed up mainly by right wing christians means that it could very well be seen as a religious war with violence from christians against muslims in a much more cynical manner.

Yes you had 9/11 and it was bad. But how many died? Less people than US soldiers died in Iraq. Hmm, and how many civilians died in Iraq because the US failed in have a plan to deal with the situation once they had "won the war"?

I have see the list at the bottom before, and find it is nonsense in many parts. It ignores the reality of many of the situations. Just because there are muslims in the Ivory Coast, does not make it a religious war. Half of those countries do not have a civil war. China doesn t, India doesn t for example.

Perhaps muslims don t take c*** lying down. Chechenya has been at war because of what Stalin did to the people there. At the break up of the USSR they wanted to join other newly formed states, but it was communist/russian orthodox Russia that turned it into a blood bath. Now you do not talk about the war with Georgia in all of this. So it is okay to talk about one conflict here and say muslims are so bad for defending their own land against an evil aggressor, but it is not okay to talk about another similar conflict in which russia is the good guy just around the corner.

Are you trying to re-write history? Do you actually know what the situation is in Somalia, in Chechenya and in every other place? I doubt it, you did a google search and found what you wanted. You did not make an intelligent opinion on the matter.

All kids misbehave some times, which is perfectly normal. But child behavior disorders go beyond mischief and rebellion. If you think there might be a problem, ask for help. Kids who have problems behaving are at higher risk for school failure, mental health problems and even suicide. It becomes critically important to support and guide the child in a positive, healthy direction.

A young person is said to have a child behavior disorders when he or she demonstrates behavior that is noticeably different from that expected in the school or community. Research has identified both biological and environmental causes for these Disorders. Some children have extremely difficult and challenging behaviours that are outside the norm for their age.

Now, more than ever before, there is hope for young people with child behavior disorders. Researchers are working to gain new scientific insights that will lead to better treatments and cures for mental, emotional disorders. In the mean time their are parenting techniques that can help lessen some of the pressures you may be experiencing.

Research has identified both biological and environmental causes for disruptive child behavior disorders Children that are at risk for Oppositional Defiant and Conduct Disorders are those who have low birth weight, neurological damage or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. These disorders share some common symptoms, so diagnosis can be difficult and time consuming but extremely important if your going to receive the proper treatment.

Examples of the Oppositional Defiant child behavior Disorder are, defiance of any authority, Arguing and refusing to obey rules, Failure to take responsibility for bad behavior or mistakes, Resentment, and temper tantrums. Sometimes Oppositional Defiant Disorder leads to Conduct Disorder. Often it is very difficult to deal with these children. Around one in ten children under the age of 12 years are thought to have oppositional defiant disorder, with boys out numbering girls by two to one.

Question :

What do you think of my article on Asperger s Syndrome?

Asperger s Syndrome, Part 6
by Michael McCroskery

Child Development and Asperger s Syndrome
Cognitive and social skills, which shape personality and character, develop throughout life. However, genetic or environmental obstacles can obstruct development, especially early in life. One such obstacle is Aspergers Syndrome.

Asperger s Syndrome (or AS) is a congenital neurobiological condition that affects 0.25% of the population. AS is linked to autism spectrum disorder, and includes autistic-like behavior and marked deficiencies in social and communication skills. AS individuals are of average to above average intelligence, some with unusual gifts and creativity. As a diagnosis, it has been known in Europe since the 1940 s, but has only been included in our medical diagnostic manuals since 1994. Thus many adults and children remain undiagnosed. Consequently AS is relatively unknown and not clearly understood, even among professionals.

AS is indeed a puzzle, and researchers are working to identify the pieces and form them into a meaningful picture. My experiences as an adult recently diagnosed with Asperger s, together with my studies in child development, suggest that individuals with AS are like young children--stuck in time, so to speak, never able to advance beyond early stages in social, cognitive and language development.

For example, most AS difficulties center around social competencies. A salient characteristic of young children is egocentrism--the inability to recognize that other people think and feel differently than oneself. Persons with Asperger s Syndrome remain in this egocentric state, unable to interpret the thoughts and emotions of others, or to experience empathy. Another name given to this condition is "mind blindness"--the incapacity to visualize the mind states of others. Thus it is hard for AS individuals to develop normal friendships, as either children or adults. Without empathy, they become emotionally stunted. A related problem is the inability to carry out social referencing through understanding nonverbal cues, such as facial expressions or body language. Such cues are "invisible" to those with AS.

A piece of the AS puzzle related to cognitive skills is attentiveness. "Attention span" is the number of mental elements that one can remember at any given time. During preschool years children exhibit "centration," focusing on one piece of information at a time, and briefly at that. The ability to process several elements simultaneously, or to remain focused on a task, comes with greater cognitive sophistication. Unfortunately, the tendency towards centration seems to remain with the AS individual into adulthood. One diagnosis commonly given prior to accurate diagnosis with Asperger s Syndrome is "attention deficit disorder."

A third part of the Asperger s puzzle relates to language. An early stage of language development includes "telegraphic speech"-- abbreviated speech in which words not essential to the meaning of a sentence are omitted. People with AS seem not to develop beyond this stage, further stunting their communication skills. The easy flow of spontaneous social conversation is usually beyond their capacities. They must learn social "scripts" through special training and repetition. Even then, AS speech tends to be stilted and formal. Also, children in early stages of language development are quite literal. Figurative use of language, symbolic representation, nuances and double meanings are a later development. Once again, the individual with Asperger s remains in a childhood realm--that of literalism. Linguistic sophistications such as jokes, puns and idioms are hard for AS individuals to grasp. Even the most basic of social interactions become a confusing and humiliating experience.

Understandably, AS individuals encounter enormous difficulties during the transition into adolescence, and later into adult life, since they have not completed the requisite developmental tasks or moved beyond early stages in language, cognitive and social skills. They frequently remain emotionally dependent upon parents or family members, and suffer from separation anxiety and insecurity when trying to live on their own. Friendships with peers, romantic relationships, marriage and parenting, and entry into the work world are usually beyond their capacity. They remain, in many debilitating ways, stuck in time, trapped in the AS puzzle. They are, in essence, childlike beings attempting to live in an adult world, but without the support and understanding that children are afforded.

Answer :
Some of it is interesting and it explains some things that are usually mentioned, but not explained much in other articles. The article only covers a small part of AS though. Since you went into such detail about this part of AS, I think you should at least mention that there is much more to AS than this, because people who don t know much about it could think this is it and that there are no other symptoms or problems in AS.

I m also not sure about the comparison with children. Aspies do have some childlike traits, but you make it sound like we need to be treated like children, which is definitely not what we need. Adult aspies should be treated as adults, but with acceptance and support when needed. I think the article needs to be a bit more clear on this.

Other than that, well done.

Borderline Personality Disorder

A personality disorder is characterized by an enduring pattern of inner experience and outward behavior that consistently deviates from the expectations of the individual s culture (Linehan, Oldham, & Silk, 1995). Everyone knows about Depression, Schizophrenia, Bipolar, and Anxiety disorder, but does anyone know what Borderline Personality Disorder is about? Almost 10 million Americans or more may be affected by BPD. Out of the 10 million 75% are women (Kreisman 2). Borderline Personality Disorder is a draining condition for sufferers, but exposing to BPD, and making people aware that there are opportunities for prevention and treatment are becoming available. Though the disorder was first defined in the 1930 s, it was only in the 1970 s that people began seeking therapy for the disorder. In the 1980 s BPD was included in the American Psychiatric Association Diagnostic manual, third edition, called the DSM-III, the diagnostic bible of the psychiatric profession.
Borderline personality disorder is a very serious and confusing disorder. People with BPD have a hard time living a normal healthy and stable life in or out of relationships. They are never satisfied with their, life no matter where or with whom they are. Their relationships often start with passionate love and end with intense hate. They love without measure those whom they will hate without reason (Thomas Sydenham 18th). Often in the beginning of a relationship they admire, adore, glorify or even worship the person. They love to spend time with their significant other. As time goes on, they spend less and less time in their affair because they feel abandoned when their partners arent there for them, as much as they want. If they feel or when they feel abandoned they start to make the relationship hard for others to handle. They either blame their partner or them selves. Why in the hell cant I control myself? The man has to make a living. Hes such a good guy he doesnt deserve me- no one should have to put up with me! (Reiland 23). Reiland expressed to the readers how she blamed herself constantly; on daily bases for the actions she wasnt capable or had a hard time controlling. This pattern was continues in all of her relationships.
They have so many mood swings that its hard for anyone to be consistent. They might feel lonely and depressed and then high with happiness and love. Sometimes they might even get angry at anyone near them or close to them. Their mood swings are irrational and without any external meaning. In Fatal Attraction starting Glenn Close and Michael Douglas. In the beginning of the film, Alex(BPD) was outgoing, charming, fun, sexy and adventurous. When Dan meet Alex she seems to be okay with having a fleeing even thought Dan is married. Until, Dan tried to break it off. When he tries to leave, she gets very upset, and over reacts for a woman who just seduced this married man. However, this sort of emotional instability is typical of those who have Borderline Personality Disorder.
Emotions are always unexpected and change at any given moment of night and day. A person with BPD always complains about feeling empty or in medical terms, dyshoric. I am alone; I can feel it the emptiness inside me. Theres nothing there. I have tried many things to feel that void (Holmes 349). Most of the time, Borderliner complains about feeling empty, because they cant Identify them selves clearly enough. Sometime, Jennifer would transform right before Dr. Grays eyes. She could be insightful and intelligent, working toward greater self- understanding, and then become a child, coquettish and seductive ( Kreisman 4). They do not seem to know who they are and are constantly changing, as if trying to find who they really are. They feel like there is a big hole inside of them. To find themselves, Borderliner might start doing anything that can involve irrational behavior. They might gamble, binge eat, take drugs, have unsafe sex, spend money irresponsibly, and drive recklessly. Halfway through a school day, Dixie would wind up fighting with some of the other kids. She didnt care .She was tough; she had friends and drugs, she was cool. Once, she even punched her science teacher (Kreisman 42).
Answer :
You start by talking about personality disorders, and then go on to say "Everyone knows about Depression, Schizophrenia,..." which are not personality disorders (doesn t make sense).

Also, instead of quoting whole lines from somewhere, better you paraphrase it in your own words.

Commonly question about Depression

Question :

Depression?

I have been suffering from Bipolar depression for several years now...somewhere around 10 years. The doctor has put me on several different medications that caused me more issues (weight gain, fatigue and other stuff like that) that I could not handle. I have not been on medicine since I had my son 2 years ago. Things seem to be getting worse lately with all the stress that has been added since my wedding in May. I have an appointment with my doctor today to try to get something to help me. It has gotten to the boilling point where I can see my condition hurting my family. Anyone have any suggestions on what medications worked good for you or someone you know? Or any other comments for me...please don t be negative..that is not going to help me at all..it will only make it worse.
Answer :
I have had moderate to severe depression on and off for about 14 years now I have tried that many different medications its not funny my main complaint was weight gain or my dose of the medication would go up and up until I hit the highest dose of that medication - Im now taking Endep and although it caused weight gain to start with (for the 1st year ugh) that seems to have stopped and Im starting to ever so slowly lose the weight again - If I dont take it even for a couple of days I end up having severe depression and many panic attacks - I dont have bipolar and Endep does make you sleep but then this is one of the reasons I was put on it as I have pretty bad insomnia as well so I need the help to get to sleep... I know I havent answered your question but I gave up for a couple of years when I was pregnant and had my baby etc and things just spiraled in a downward direction until I went back to the Drs to try some new medications again - just remember they can take a little while to kick in (around 2 weeks) so dont get discouraged if they dont work straight away for you... I wish you all the best and Im glad you recognise whats happening to you before you do, do something you dont want to do.

Commonly question about Am I An Alcoholic? (HD)

Question :

I strongly suspect I have AD HD, and a low I.Q. Is there any hope?

For the past 10 years my life has gone to hell, and it s only gotten progressively worse.

I was neglected and abused as a child by both of my mentally deranged parents, who thought it was a swell idea to hide me away from the world and deny me common human desires, such as friendship and social Integration.

As a result, I literally can hardly speak, forget eloquence; to another human being staring them in the face - I ve made countless life decisions that would be considered moronic and I have yet to find that special something that makes me feel as though life is meaningful.

I currently live in a small town, and needless to say, I have no friends. I am unemployed, stuck living with my alcoholic father who cannot even speak to me like I am a person - he can t even speak to me in complete sentences for christ s sakes - have no aim in life, and have been pondering suicide for approximately seven years. The only thing that made me happy was writing stories about people and places that do not exist, and I m so tired of living like this.

I m oddly reserved and anxious around other people, I can barely function around them, and I m ashamed to say that I resent my family. My father ran away and abandoned us when I was a kid, I was shuttled back and forth from alot of missions when I was a child, I was molested by my grandfather and by an older man when we were living in the mission. I told my mother, but she did nothing. Instead, she though it would be great to screw up her children by telling them she knew people who could take care of us , mafia style - not to mention all the physical, mental, and verbal abuse we endured from her.

I could go on, but it s alot of the same tired old crap. I m perpetually bored and live far below the poverty line. No one in my town wants to hire me, I ve gained a rep as the town retard . The only things in life that make it meaningful to me are the things I cannot ever posess. I used to pride myself on my individuality but now I just want to fit in. There s the rub I guess. I can t motivate myself to do much of anything, and I ve been breaking down in tears every day for the past year or so. I just can t lie to myself anymore and tell myself it s going to be alright. The only thing that stays my hand from taking my own life is fear of punishment from god. I wonder if given enough time and boredom, will that eventually break down...

I value accomplishment, intelligence, and friendship. I cannot delude myself anymore into believing I ever was fortunate enough to have had these things.

I want to make a change, but besides being incredibly shy and reserved, I just don t believe in myself anymore. Any advice besides the usual canned hash?
Answer :
You had a rough life, and it s no surprise that this has taken a toll on you. ADHD is possible, but it sounds like your social difficulties may be a form of asperger s syndrome, which is just a social problem. I d attempt to see a therapist. There are many places you can go for free or very cheap. From there you can figure out whats wrong. Maybe talking out your problems is what you need - some one to unload the burden on. Or maybe you need medication and things will fix themselves.

I can tell by your writing that you re not stupid, you can express yourself clearly, its just from bad parenting that you never developed good social skills. Once you address this, it will be easier to make friends. Being shy myself, I know how scary it is and often avoid people in fear that they ll think I m an idiot

Also, it sounds like you like to write, and that brings you pleasure. Keep writing. You can try applying to online newspapers and such and get paid to do what you like - while never having to say a word to anyone.

Answer :
He is young enough that you should put a reward system in place. Draw up a chart and get some stickers from the dollar store.

How long can he go while being good? Use that time frame when designing your chart.

Maybe 30 minutes, maybe 2 hours. Or you may want to just make a column for every time he does something good or nice he gets a sticker. That way he can try to change his behaviour on his own.

Tell him what he needs to do to get a sticker. Even if that changes throughout the day. Make sure you tell him if he hits or screams then he does not get his sticker. It may be slow going at first, but over time it should work. You ll need to have some sort of reward for the stickers in the end. Maybe his favourite treat ( bowl of icecream) but even more rewarding would be to go somewhere with dad. This will teach him right from wrong and over time you can increase his responsibilities and expectations.
Question :

I would like some advice on abuse?

Hi, I m going to ask some advice on abuse... And if this is abuse, my little brother and I are victims.

Things given to me:

-Name calling ie: *****, Dumbass, Shithead, and other cuss words.
-Yelling or screaming at (My mother yells at me daily)
-Blamed for problems... ie: Why my parents fight, problems they have, and pretty much everything that goes wrong.
-Threats of violence ie: to beat, hit, and punch me.
- Acts of violence ie: slap, hit, grab my neck,
-Humiliation ie: Calling me fat in front of my friend.
(And about if I am fat or not.. As far as I m concerned I m a healthy weight.. My doctor has tod me I am, the school nurse has...)
-Making me guilty of things that aren t my doing.
-Calling me an awful child.

I m not a bad kid.. I m respectful, I m in every advanced class my school has to offer, and I m an all A honor roll student, concert master of my school s advanced orchestra, and teachers adore me, as do other parents..

Now the things they do to me cause me to cut and harm myself...I ve cut all over my right wrist with a butcher knife last time and they were pretty bad looking but went away in 2 1/2 weeks. And I keep feeling the need to cut more, and more ought en.

As for my brother... He has AD HD... And some doctors think he is borderline autistic..I love him so much.. I m 14 and he is 9..

Things they do to him:

-Threats of violence
-Acts of violence ie: slap, hit, or shove.
-Yell or scream at him a lot.

He does misbehave a few times daily and very oughten.. But he s having challenges.. But he s coming such a long way.. He used to struggle and get C s and D s but now he s getting on the A and B honor roll and doing so much better. He just needs caring, nurturing, and support and guidance. He starts getting better in his behavior and he is such a smart boy.

Whenever they hit or hurt him in any way he starts bawling and crying and gets so upset.. It hurts me so much when they hurt him and I usually take him into my room and check and see if he s got a little bruise or if he s okay.. And I just let him stay with me for the night and talk to him and calm him down and tell him it s not his fault and he didn t deserve it. My parents or my dad specifically hits him over stupid things.. Like if he does somethnig slightly annoying he hits him on the head. My brother is so sensitive and sweet. He doesn t deserve it.

I don t want to turn my parents in but I want it to stop. It s been over 2 years now that this has been going on. My mom is addicted to pain meds and my father is an alcoholic and smoker to add detail..

I love my brother and I want help for us.

Am I just a whiny brat? Or is this abuse?

And you may state your opinions but could you please state them nicely? I would appreciate it.

Thank you.
Answer :
I would talk to your school counselor about this, your doctor, and I would also call CPS (child protective services). It is important to establish a support network for you and your brother, so I would talk to anyone who will listen. You are very articulate so I would tell CPS and the school counselor exactly everything you wrote above. I can imagine that you are afraid and conflicted by reporting ...but, I think it is absolutely imperative that you seek help! My heart goes out to you.
