Commonly question about Dog Anxiety

Question :

Dog anxiety?

I have a 1 year old male shih tzu mix - not neutered. Every time he stays alone in the house he pees in random spots, as if marking territory. Is not that he has to go because they re not big puddles and we let him out for a long time before we leave.

He didnt do this before, he started doing this after turning 1 year and we dont know why. I think its anxiety because of the dog shows i ve seen on tv.

We ve tried the newspaper on nose thing ( but he growls instead of crying), we ve also tried locking him in the garage after pointing out his pee. etc.

Does anyone know how to correct his behavior?

I dont have access to any dog trainer and i already asked a few people but nothing.
Answer :
Neuter him. Neutering will curb marking. So, that, in conjunction with some training and proper discipline will solve the problem.

And don t bother with the newspaper to the nose....it causes more problems than it solves.

EDIT: Wifey, neutering does indeed CURB the behavior in many dogs, but won t stop it completely. That s where the training and discipline comes into play. All 3 used in conjunction are quite successful in managing the behavior.
Question :

Dog anxiety???

my dog is absolutely terrified of thunder storms and i wanna come up with a way to fix it but i need to know what causes it. i think it is the noise but mostly because he doesnt know where it is coming from, but im not sure. plz help
Answer :
For loud noises, it s almost impossible to eliminate that fear, but you can aid it.

One thing to do - don t ignore him. That will only make his fear worse.

Try to keep your dog in a room near the center of your home, and play some music or turn on the TV to help muffle the noise, make sure your dog is away from any windows, seeing as the flash of lightning and the rumble of thunder are almost always connected.

That s your best bet for this particular case.

Question :

DOG anxiety?

alrighty,
soooo my dog a yorkie/poodle mix is like dealthy afraid of the dishwasher and the stove. WE have no idea why but everytime we put either of them on which we have to almost once everyday he like pants really heavy and shakes and like wants to be REALLY close to you like if you move your arm he will stick his nose in between you and your arm so that your like hugging him ! what can i do i feel so bad and hes really annoying when hes like this?
Answer :
you have to Desensitize Your Dog to Loud Noises.

Create A Positive Association

Before the tremors set in, haul out the dog treats. Before your dog gets to the cowering point, hand out a treat for every second he does NOT try to run. If he stays in a "sit" reward him. Sometimes owners unwittingly reward the fear reaction, encouraging their dog to BE fearful.

Build Up To The Noise Gradually

Set up a tape recorder, and record the worst noises that cause the fear). Pick a day when you can put up with it, and playback the recordings, starting on a low volume setting, and get louder gradually. As the noise continues, your dog will experience a less intense reaction. I should emphasize that you increase the volume GRADUALLY.

Sometimes this process could take a while, but when your dog is able to sit calmly next to you when it s stormy out, you ll know you ve won.

hope that helped!

My dog was deathly afraid of thunder, and the stove, and this really helped!
